The AMD Mycro Direct-Die Pro RGB V1, with its hybrid micro-fin structure, represents the evolution of the Mycro Direct-Die series for the AMD AM5 platform. Enhancements in the Pro version allow for better heat transfer from the CPU under load, resulting in up to 9°C lower temperatures compared to the standard version of the Direct-Die cooler. Along with technical upgrades, the design has been reworked as well.

The most significant changes include the copper base plate, which now features a hybrid structure with two different types of micro-fins. Over the I/O die, where less heat is generated, 14 shallow grooves with wide fin spacing are used. In the high heat zone, there are 29 deeper grooves with narrow fin spacing, producing tall and slim micro-fins. The grooves are 0.2 mm wide. Additionally, the Pro version is thinner, and the cooler’s design is optimized for flow, featuring a jet plate to reduce flow resistance. The base plate’s contact surfaces are tailored to the layout of the AMD Ryzen 9000 series but are also compatible with older AM5 processors.

The aluminum top of the AMD Mycro Direct-Die Pro RGB V1 visually resembles the Intel Mycro Direct-Die Pro RGB V1. Its anodized aluminum lid rests on a block of tempered acrylic glass. RGB LEDs illuminate the acrylic glass from within, casting light between the nickel-plated base plate and the black anodized lid, as well as around the G1/4-inch threads, giving the cooler an elegant visual appeal.

Description:

The AMD Mycro Direct-Die Pro RGB V1 features a hybrid structure with two different sizes of microfins and a jet plate for optimized flow. The cooler’s cold plate is made of nickel-plated copper and is mounted directly on the CPU chip. For this, the Socket Actuation Mechanism (SAM) of the motherboard is removed, and the processor must be delidded. The nickel plating of the cooler plate creates a barrier layer, preventing gallium-based liquid metal from diffusing into the copper, making multiple applications of liquid metal usually unnecessary.

Between the cold plate and the anodized aluminum cover, there is acrylic glass, which undergoes an annealing process after milling to relieve internal stress. This ensures that no stress cracks form in the acrylic glass over time, unlike hardened acrylic glass. RGB LEDs are located under the aluminum cover and are controlled via a 3-pin ARGB header (+5V/DATA/GND) through the motherboard. The LEDs illuminate the acrylic glass under the cover and the G1/4-inch connectors on the cover.

Attention: Removing the heatspreader (“delidding”) of a processor is at your own risk! The manufacturer’s warranty expires when the CPU is delidded! Damage caused by delidding the CPU is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty!

Removing the Socket Actuation Mechanism (SAM) of the mainboard may invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty of the mainboard manufacturer!

Note on Ryzen 9000 compatibility:

According to initial internal tests, the AM5 Mycro Direct Die RGB is compatible with AMD’s Ryzen 9000 processor series. The compatibility test only includes the normal 9000 CPUs. Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs will be tested as soon as available.
